AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils (MCF and MCV) provide the absolute best lubrication for motorcycles ever and we’ve got the documentation to prove it.

The demands placed on motorcycle engine oils are more severe than those placed on automotive engine oils. Most motorcycle operators do not recognize what these differences are and to what degree they alter lubrication requirements.

    * Operational Speed: Motorcycles tend to operate at engine speeds significantly higher than automobiles. This subjects lubricating oil to higher loading and shear forces. Elevated RPM’s also promote foaming, which accelerates oxidation and reduces the oil’s load-carrying ability.
* Compression Ratios: Motorcycles tend to operate with higher engine compression ratios than automobiles. Higher compression ratios place additional stress on engine components and increase engine-operating temperatures.
* Horse Power: Motorcycle engines produce nearly twice the horsepower per cubic inch of displacement of automobile engines. This exposes the oil to higher temperatures and stress.
* Variable Engine Cooling: Automobiles use a water-cooling system to control engine temperatures. Many motorcycles are air-cooled or use a combination of air/oil design. This results in elevated operating temperatures, which promotes oxidation and causes oil to thin.
* Multiple Lubrication Functionality: In automobiles, engine oil is only required to lubricate the engine. Many motorcycles have common sumps for the engine and transmission. Many motorcycles also incorporate a frictional clutch within the transmission that uses the same oil.
* Inactivity: Motorcycles are typically used less frequently than automobiles. These extended periods of inactivity put more stress on the oil. Critical concerns are rust and corrosion protection.
Despite the fact that AMSOIL MCF and MCV did not achieve the highest score in the Viscosity Index Test, there are reasons that you can share with your prospect as to why that is not a major concern.

    * Petroleum oils generally start out with a viscosity index (VI) of less than 100, synthetics with less than 125.
* Explain that a greater viscosity index does not represent the oil’s load carrying ability.
* Inform them that shearing forces can significantly reduce the oil’s load carrying ability.
* Convey that the viscosity of the oil is affected by temperature changes during use.

High Temperature/High Shear test and the Viscosity Shear Stability Test. AMSOIL MCF and MCV score at the top in both of these tests. What does this mean?

    * AMSOIL starts with a medium-to-high viscosity index, but maintains it better than anyone else.
* This test is important because bearings require the highest level of protection during high temperature operation.
* The higher the score in the High Temperature/High Shear test, the greater the level of protection offered by the oil.
* Once the operating temperature changes, so does the viscosity of the oil.
* There are significant differences between oils and their ability to retain their viscosity.
* Can a product that changes so greatly under operating temperatures protect as well as one that is stable like AMSOIL? No.

The quality of AMSOIL 10W-40 and 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil has impressed so many motorcycle enthusiasts that word-of-mouth promotion has created an industry-wide buzz for AMSOIL. Adding to the excitement is the news that AMSOIL is now the Official Oil of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Daytona Bike Week. The Sturgis and Daytona rallies are the biggest events for motorcyclists, with more than one million riders attending the two rallies. As the Official Oil of both the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Daytona Bike Week, AMSOIL is gearing up for an exciting summer.

AMSOIL has had a corporate presence at Sturgis since 2006. This year, as the rally’s Official Oil, AMSOIL will be very prominently displayed. “People are going to see AMSOIL; there’s no way you can miss us,” said Regional Sales Manager Rob Stenberg. Stop by the AMSOIL booth in downtown Sturgis for AMSOIL products, clothing and more.

What is the recommended transmission lube for Harley Davidson, both big twins and sportsters?

The best transmission lube for your harley davidson is Amsoil

For the 883cc and 1200cc Sportster motorcycles:

AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for both the engine and transmission.

1340cc and 1450cc models,- 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for the engine crankcase, Series 2000 75W-90 Gear Lube for the transmission and the 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil for the chaincase.

Harley does however have a secondary recommendation in which a single Screamin’ Eagle motor oil is used in all three areas. In such applications, the AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil would be the preffered product. Yep you read that right

Dear Mr. Scanlon:

Thank you for your recent letter requesting information on Harley-Davidson’s one-year, unlimited mileage warranty when Synthetic Lubricants are used.

Until now, the Motor Company has never supported the use of synthetic products in our vehicles because there had never been any test validations completed on the numerous formulations in HD/Buell motorcycles to determine the viability of using these products on Harley-Davidson products until now.

We have developed a specially formulated synthetic fluid called SYN3. This fluid can be used in Harley-Davidson engines, transmissions and primary chaincases. This product had been exclusively designed for Harley-Davidson and is the only synthetic product tested and certified by Harley-Davidson engineering for use on HD/Buell motorcycles.

The use of a different brand of fluid does not void the one-year, unlimited mileage warranty unless it can be confirmed that the use of such products was the cause of the failure.

Thank you, Mr. Scanlon, for taking the time to write to Harley-Davidson and allowing me to answer your questions.
